Real Madrid And Vinicius Contract Extension Negotiations Can Protracted Until 2026

JAKARTA - Vinicius Junior's new contract negotiations at Real Madrid are still stalled. According to ESPN, there is now a scenario where the new negotiations will resume after the 2026 World Cup.

The forward's contract at the Santiago Bernabeu expires in June 2027, meaning the Brazilian and runner-up Ballon d'Or 2025 will enter the final year of his contract with a future that is still uncertain.

ESPN reports that Vinicius' relationship with coach Xabi Alonso has been strained in recent months. The star was not included in the starting XI four times and Vinicius reacted angrily when he was replaced in the El Clasico match in October 2025.

The situation of the player's contract extension can still change, but no progress has been made for some time.

In May 2025, clubs and player representatives almost reached an agreement that would allow Vinicius to receive 20 million euros (approximately IDR 387.7 billion) per year, plus a bonus of 10 million euros (approximately IDR 193.8 billion).

However, Vinicius' camp believes that Real Madrid's final offer is different from that discussed, namely without bonuses.

Instead, the club's sources said that a verbal agreement had been reached, which was not followed up. This made the club executives feel that the players' camps did not keep their promises.

Furthermore, negotiations did not progress. Vinicius' current contract makes him receive around 17 million euros (around Rp. 329.6 billion) clean per year.

Vinicius' representative believes that, in the current context, it does not make sense to receive a small salary increase in exchange for a valid contract until 2030.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid remain positive about their chances of getting a new contract with Vinicius, who has won two Champions Leagues and three LaLiga titles, being one of the world's best players since joining in 2018.

However, another source told ESPN that senior Real Madrid executives were unhappy with the way the team negotiated.

Real Madrid started talks with Vinicius earlier than usual - in February 2025, with the remaining contract of more than two years - after the forward attracted interest from the Saudi Arabian Pro League.

ESPN further wrote that the transfer bonus that Kylian Mbappe received was a factor that made it difficult for Vinicius' contract talks because the Brazilian wanted equality with his teammates.

Although the relationship between the two players is good, the deteriorating relationship between Vinicius and Alonso is more worrying.

Vinicius apologized publicly on social media for his behavior after being replaced in the El Clasico match, without naming the coach.

The striker is still Brazil's mainstay under former Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
