Australian Open 2025: Fajar/Fikri Qualify For BWF World Tour Finals

JAKARTA - Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri will certainly appear in the 2025 BWF World Tour Finals next month after successfully reaching the final round at the Australian Open.

The final ticket was obtained by Fajar/Fikri after defeating Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani rubber games 21-15, 19-21, and 21-16 on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

"Alhamdulillah, I got to the final and qualified for the World Tour Finals. There was never a target when I started a couple with Fikri. This feels really extraordinary," said Fajar.

Fajar/Fikri were only able to confirm their ticket to the 2025 BWF World Tour Final in Sydney after they missed playing at the 2025 Japan Kumamoto Masters event last week.

Their condition for being able to play in an important event for the year-end top player is also quite complicated. They have to go to the final and hope that some of their competitors don't step into the semifinals.

"Tidak main di Kumamoto memang membuat langkah kami ke Hangzhou menjadi sangat sulit. Bukan hanya perjuangan saya dan Fikri, tetapi harus melihat hasil dari pasangan lain," ujar Fajar.

In the final round tomorrow Fajar/Fikri meet their compatriot Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin, who automatically ensures that the title from the men's doubles sector already belongs to Indonesia.

Raymond/Nikolaus who in their performance were very impressive in reaching the final in their debut in the BWF Super 500 tournament thanks to defeating second seed Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin from Malaysia.

"Raymond/Joaquin are extraordinary. They beat the superior pairs here and reached the final. We are grateful that there is a regeneration of men's doubles who are ready to compete at the top level," said Fajar.

For Fajar/Fikri, the final in Australia is their fifth final in just nine tournaments since they were paired. In the previous four finals they had one title and three runners-up.
