JAKARTA Indonesia sent a small force with great enthusiasm to the Riyadh 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) multi-branch sporting event which began this week.

The sixth edition of the ISG is scheduled to take place on November 7, 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Indonesian contingent only sent 38 athletes from seven sports to the event.

Chef de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesian contingent, Endri Erawan, ensured that the Indonesian small contingent had undergone intensive training at the national training camp (pelatnas) so that they were very ready to give their best.

"Although it does not transmit complete and best strength in each sport because some of its athletes will take part in the 2025 Thailand SEA Games which is close in time, we want them to appear confident," he said.

The sports sent by Indonesia are swimming, fencing, muaythai, wrestling, weightlifting, and camel racing. In addition, there are also pencak silat who will appear as a demonstration branch.

Endri said that Islamic Solidarity Games is not just a sports competition, but a forum to strengthen solidarity, brotherhood, and tolerance between nations.

"Our team is indeed mini, but we will try to provide maximum service to Indonesian team athletes so that they can perform and achieve maximum for Indonesia," said Endri.

The event organized by the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) under the auspices of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will be attended by 57 member countries.

Although participants are from Islamic countries, athletes who appear are not only Muslims. This makes ISG a real symbol of cross-confidence unity through sports and there is no discrimination.

ISG 2025 competes in 23 major sports, but there is an additional potential of up to 26 sports because there are those present as demonstrations such as pencak silat.

The matches will be held in various modern complexes such as Boulevard, Olympic Complex, Al Janadriyah, and Malaz, which combine the nuances of modernity and traditions of Saudi Arabia.

Indonesia has a strong track record in this event. While hosting the 2013 ISG in Jakarta' Palembang, Indonesia emerged as the overall champion with 36 gold, 36 silver, and 34 bronze.

Then in the last edition in Konya 2022, the Indonesian contingent won 12 gold, 12 silver, and 21 bronze so that it was entitled to rank sixth in the final standings for medals.
