JAKARTA - The lightweight boxer, Gervonta Davis, again stumbled into legal trouble after being sued by his ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, on charges of physical violence, kidnapping, and emotional torture.
The lawsuit comes two weeks before he is scheduled to board the ring against Jake Paul, a social media star who is currently pursuing professional boxing, on November 14, 2025 in Miami.
Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), the promoter who handled the Davis vs Jake Paul duel, immediately announced that they were conducting an investigation.
"Currently we are gathering information and reviewing all the facts to ensure our decision will be completely mature."
"We condemn all forms of violence and are committed to handling them carefully and respectfully to all parties involved. The final decision will be taken after the review process is complete," the MVP's official statement was reported by BBC Sport.

The civil lawsuit was filed on Thursday, October 31, 2025, at Florida's Miami-Dade County Court. Davis is accused of maltreatment, severe abuse, forced detention, kidnapping, and acts that cause severe emotional pressure.
In its lawsuit file, Rossel demanded compensation and a sentence of more than US$50,000 or around Rp. 800 million and requested that the case be tried by the jury.
Rossel admitted Davis attacked him on October 27, 2025 at his workplace, even threatening to kill him.
He also said that this violence was not the first but had occurred at least four times, including Davis' actions which were said to have strangled and beat him.
Rossel is now said to be experiencing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and is undergoing therapy.
The case comes just two months after another domestic violence lawsuit against Davis was withdrawn by a different ex-lover.
The 30-year-old boxer's legal records were not clean. Davis was arrested for domestic violence in 2020 and 2022, and was sentenced to 44 days in prison in 2023 for violating house arrest rules in a hit-and-run case in Baltimore in 2020.
Davis and his representatives declined to comment on the grounds that the case was ongoing in court.
