Senne Lammens: I'm Not Schmeichel Who Disguised

JAKARTA - Senne Lammens said that although he appreciated the song from Manchester United supporters who compared it to legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, he emphasized that he was just 'Senne Lammens' trying to help the team.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper joined Royalikarp on the last day of the transfer market. After missing Manchester United's first few games as soon as he arrived at Old Trafford, he made his 2-0 win over Sunderland on October 4, 2025, which started three team wins in a row.

His performance against Manchester United's first Sunderland-clean-sheet this season has sparked spectators at Old Trafford to chant 'Are you Schmeichel who is disguised?'.

"I didn't really listen to him during the game, but I saw him afterwards. I'm not Schmeichel who disguised himself. I'm just Senne Lammens trying to help the team."

"Extraordinary praise, but we have to be realistic. He's one of the best goalkeepers of all time. I have to prove more to be equal to him," he told the BBC.

Lammens missed Manchester United's first three games after joining, watching team-mate, Altay Bayindir, become the main goalkeeper in a narrow win over Chelsea and two disappointing defeats to Manchester City and Brentford.

The Belgian said he thought he had had several weeks to adapt to life in the Premier League was the right decision from head coach Ruben Amorim.

"Before that no one said about a tight plan. Always, the best goalkeeper will play."

"However, when needed, I can be harsh or scream at my teammates. Having both characteristics is good," said Lammens.

Meanwhile, Schmeichel won five Premier League titles during his time at Manchester United and is an important part of the club's famous treble success in 1999.

The score motivated Lemmens to last for a long time at Manchester United.

"I want to have a long career here. Then, maybe in the end, I can talk to people like Schmeichel, (Edwin) van der Sar, and (David) de Gea. It would be great," Lammens said.
