Janice Tjen / Katarzyna Piter Wins Women's Doubles WTA 250 Guangzhou Open Tournament

JAKARTA - Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen won the WTA 250 Guangzhou double title with Polish tennis player Katarzyna Piter after winning the final round in China on Sunday.

Janice/Katarzyna came from behind the first set, equalized in the second set, then won the tie break to tend in the decisive set to win the title.

In one hour 20 minutes, Janice/Katarzyna beat Taiwan-Hong Kong pair Liang En-shuo/Eudice Chong with a final score of 3-6, 6-3, 10-5, according to the WTA records.

On their way to the top round, Janice/Katarzyna showed their mental strength. Even though they always lose the first set, both of them make it through every match.

Janice/Katarzyna beat French pair Kristina Mladenovic/Leolia Jeanjean in the first half. They were then confronted by the top seed in the quarter-finals, but succeeded in overthrowing Elena Pridankina/Quin Gleason.

In the semifinals, Janice/Katarzyna faced Alexandra Eala/Nadiia Kichenok, and were able to beat the tough pair.

The double title was like sweet candy for Janice after having to swallow the bitter pill of defeat in the first round of qualifying in the singles sector.

Janice stopped at the hands of Tatiana Prozorova with 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-7(7) on Sunday (19/10). He suffered the defeat after winning a single title at WTA 125 Jinan the day before.

Janice's first WTA single title shot up the 80th place in Janice's world. Meanwhile, the WTA double title in Guangzhou follows the WTA 125 Suzhou title won by Janice with compatriot Aldila Sutjiadi earlier this month.

Janice and Aldila will return in pairs at WTA 250121 in India. There, Aldila/Janice are scheduled to compete in the first round, Monday (27/10), meeting Indonesian tennis player Priska Nugroho who is paired with Sofya Landsere.

In the singles sector, Janice, who is the fourth seed, is waiting for Italian tennis player! Stefanini in the first round which is scheduled for Monday (27/10).
