Waiting For Patrick Kluivert's Substitute, PSSI New Coach Meeting Today

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports (Wamenpora), Taufik Hidayat, revealed that the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) will hold a meeting to discuss the new coach of the Indonesian national team.

The meeting to discuss a new tactician filling the vacant chair left by Patrick Kluivert is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

"(The new coach) has not yet been (announced). Tomorrow (today) we will have a meeting," said Taufik at the Presidential Palace on Monday, October 20, 2025.

The new coach of the Garuda Squad is still an enigma since Kluivert was kicked out of his chair. A number of names have been linked as replacement candidates, including Frank de Boer, Louis van Gaal, Mark van Bommel, Timur Kapadze, Jesus Casas, to Shin Tae-yong's return.

Taufik said that the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) continues to communicate with PSSI regarding finding new coaches, especially Menpora Erick Thohir also serves as Chairman of PSSI.

"(Communication) is the same as the Minister directly because the PSSI General Chair is also the Minister (Erick Thohir)," said the 2004 Athens Olympic gold medalist.

Kluivert was kicked out of the coaching chair after failing to bring Indonesia through to the 2026 World Cup. Garuda Squad's move was stopped in the Fourth Round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

At that stage, Indonesia lost twice, consecutively against Saudi Arabia (2-3) and Iraq (0-1).

The defeat left Jay Idzes and his colleagues finishing on the basis of Group B standings, which did not qualify for the Fifth Round.

The Indonesian national team will next face FIFA Matchday in November 2025. Thus, the Garuda Squad needs a new coach to follow the agenda.
