Rodri's Injury Continues, But This Time It's Not Too Severe

JAKARTA - Rodri's nightmare of injury continued on Sunday, October 5, 2025, when the midfielder was replaced in the 21st minute in Manchester City's away win against Brentford 1-0 in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old sat in the center circle of the pitch holding his hamstring and finally limped to be replaced by Nico Gonzalez.

"I feel a bit of pain in the hamstring, but it doesn't seem too bad. I did a bit of a stretch, like in the Euro final (when he had to leave the field with an injury). But, most importantly, the injury wasn't too severe," Rodri told Sky Sports.

Rodri underwent surgery to improve the anterior cruciatum (ACL) ligament in his right knee after experiencing the problem - which also affected miniscus - in the Premier League match against Arsenal in September 2024.

After returning to action at the end of last season, Rodri has improved his fitness in recent weeks to return to his best form which saw him win the Ballon d'Or last year.

"It's a muscle problem. So, two or three weeks (it's going to be absent). Of course I don't want to lose a bit because he's a very important player. We're trying to take care of him, but that's how it is," said Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, after the game.

Manchester City are used to having to fight without Rodri and they do it again because Erling Haaland's goal in the ninth minute proved enough for them to earn three points with a win over Brentford in west London.

Speaking on Friday, October 3, 2025, ahead of the match against Brentford, Pep Guardiola warned that Rodri may take almost all season to get back to his best.

Rodri played for an hour in a 2-2 draw against AS Monaco in the Champions League in the middle of last week after missing Manchester City's previous two games. Guardiola said he had to be careful in managing his star midfielder.
