Korea Open 2025: Jonathan And Alwi Clash In Semifinals

JAKARTA Alwi Farhan and Jonatan Christie clashed in the semifinals of the Korea Open 2025, which automatically ensures that one Indonesian men's singles representative will enter the final round of the tournament.

Jonathan first locked the semifinal ticket after securing a straight two-game win 21-14 and 21-8 over Kenta Nishimoto on Friday, September 26, 2025.

"Praise God for the semifinals, the wait is quite long for me. Moreover, there was a very disturbing injury, but slowly his condition began to recover," said Jonathan.

This is the third semifinal played by Jonathan on this year's BWF tour calendar after he previously achieved that at the India Open and Indonesia Masters in January 2025.

While in India, the owner of the 2018 Asian Games gold medal failed to reach the final, while at the Indonesia Masters he went to the final and had to settle for being runner-up.

This result makes Jonathan now widen his winning record for 12-9 against Nishimoto. The result was also his second straight win after the first round of the 2025 China Masters last week.

"Today is more focused on how to play, applying what is prepared. Pull the opponent to the pattern of the game I want," said the badminton player who had left the PBSI National Training Center.

Alwi got a semifinal ticket after he came back from behind to win three games against the men's singles from China, Weng Hong Yang. This is Alwi's first semifinal in the BWF Super 500 level event.

"A very meaningful victory, very important because besides this is the first Super 500 semifinal for me, tomorrow finally my dream of meeting an idol in an official match is realized," said Alwi.
