Benevento's Chances Of Relegation Are Eroded

JAKARTA - Crotone's late goal eroded Benevento's chances of avoiding the threat of relegation after both teams drew 1-1 in the Italian League's 37th week match at the Ciro Vigorito Stadium, Sunday, 16 May.Reported by Antara, Monday, May 17, the goal was scored by Crotone's top scorer, Simy, in the third minute of injury time with a close-range shot from Pedro Pereira's cross.As a result, benevento's advantage since the 19th minute thanks to Gianluca Lapadula's goal and the home side's hard-fought run to normal time was lost. Benevento actually had two more chances after Crotone equalised. The first of Adolfo Gaich's headers from Riccardo Improta's cross was blocked by Crotone's defensive line.

Benevento's chances of finishing with a gaetanlo letizia cross and Kamil Glik's effort from the centre of the box were saved by goalkeeper Marco Festa.

The result was all the more painful for Benevento as they faced only 10 Crotone players since the 24th minute, as Vladimir Golemic received a straight red card for a foul on Lapadula.An extra point kept both teams out of their respective positions in the red zone of the standings. Benevento remain 18th with 32 points, one point above Crotone, according to the Italian League's official website.Filippo Inzaghi's team certainly hope their main rivals in the relegation battle, Torino (35), suffer defeat in the 25th game of the week against Lazio on Tuesday (18/5) next week. Because if Torino get just one point, then Benevento will surely overtake Crotone and Parma relegated to Serie B.Meanwhile, in another 37th-week match played together in Friuli, Sampdoria took home the full three points after beating hosts Udinese 1–0.Striker Fabio Quagliarella converted a penalty in the 88th minute to seal Sampdoria's victory.Despite the win, Sampdoria did not move from ninth in the standings with 49 points, while Udinese (40) remained in 12th place.
