Thomas Partey's Tough Day, Mocked By Tottenham Supporters To The Rape Case Trial

JAKARTA - Villarreal midfielder Thomas Partey was ridiculed by Tottenham Hotspur supporters on his return to London for the Champions League match the night before he was due to attend a court hearing on charges of rape.

The 32-year-old former Arsenal midfielder started the bench in the 78th minute. Spurs supporters immediately ridiculed him and continued to do so every time he got involved in the game.

Tottenham also won 1-0 through Luiz Junior's own goal when the game had only been running for four minutes.

In July 2025, he was charged with five counts of rape and one charge of sexual assault. Allegations of violations, involving three women, occurred between 2021-2022 when Partey was still an Arsenal player.

Partey was released on bail in a court hearing in London on August 5, 2025. Villarreal signed him two days later.

Partey's lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, previously said that Partey denied all charges against him and that he welcomed the opportunity to finally clear his name.

Police said the investigation opened in February 2022 when it first received a rape report.

After finishing the match against Spurs, Thomas Partey, then went to trial. During the trial, he pleaded not guilty on charges of rape of two victims and one charge of sexual assault.

Partey only spoke to confirm his name, date of birth, and innocence in a brief hearing at the Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

Ghana's international player, who now plays for Villarreal, will face trial under a High Court judge at the same court on November 2, 2026.

"Your trial will take place in this court on November 2 next year, 2026. I understand that it is still far from what was expected."

"As you can understand, the royal court has a lot of pending work, which means the trial will take a long time to start."

The judge granted assurances on the same terms Partey set at the previous hearing that he was unable to contact any of the three women and had to notify police of any changes to permanent addresses or international travel.

Partey, previously located at Potters Bar in Hertfordshire, joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 for a transfer of around 45 million pounds.

Partey played 35 games for the north London club in the Premier League last season and scored four goals.

He has appeared more than 50 times for Ghana, including in the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations.

"The player's contract expires on June 30, 2025. Due to the ongoing legal process, the club was unable to comment on this case," said a spokesman for Arsenal earlier.
