As is known, I-League has officially determined the competition, previously known as the Indonesian League 2, with the new name Championship. With the new branding, Championship is now also the first level two league in Asia to fully wear VAR throughout the season.
This decision was announced at a club owner meeting held in Jakarta, Thursday, August 7, 2025. According to the Director of Operations I-League, Asep Saputra, the full VAR implementation will begin in the 2025/2026 season.
"The 2025/2026 season will be a historic moment. Championship will be Asia's first second league to fully use VAR," said Asep.
Previously, VAR was used on a limited basis in the final round of Liga 2 last season. Now, assistance technology for referees will be used from the start of the competition as part of efforts to increase league standards.
Rahmat added that with the VAR technology in Indonesia's second level competition, he hopes that this season can run more interestingly than in previous years.
"This is of course the first time Persiraja has played in a competition with VAR. We hope that everything goes as well as we expected," said Rahmat Djailani.
