JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Management (Pengprov) held a coaching clinic and playing together with the Dutch coach, Raymond Mollet.
The agenda, which took place at The Sport Hub Forum, Bintaro, South Jakarta, on Saturday, August 9, was also attended by athletes, coaches, and the sports community from various regions. The purpose of holding this agenda is also to expand the socialization of Korfball in Indonesia.
Chairman of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government of Korfball, Adi Dwikolano, said that the arrival of Coach Raymond to Jakarta was part of the official agenda of the Asian International Corfball Federation (IKF) for Indonesia.
Raymond, who also serves as the Asian IKF Ambassador to Indonesia, was present and provided training to coaches who were participating in the level 1 and 2 licensing programs.
"Alhamdulillah, six DKI Jakarta coaches already have this license. Therefore, we specifically invite Coach Raymond to hold a coaching clinic for DKI Jakarta athletes and the general public," Adi said in a written statement quoted on Sunday, August 10.
The holding of this training has two main objectives, namely, providing knowledge and techniques for playing Korfball to DKI Jakarta athletes and introducing this sport to the public to be more popular and in demand.
In addition to Jakarta's Korfball athletes and coaches, this activity was also attended by participants from the All-Indonesian Korfball Association (PKSI) South Tangerang, Bekasi Regency, and Bekasi City.
Interestingly, the Women's Basketball League (Libamak) community also took part in the coaching clinic and joint game session.
Adi said the enthusiasm of the participants was very high. Many of them come from basketball which wants to try Korfball.
"On average they admit that the Korfball technique is not too difficult, but it is indeed more draining energy than basketball," said Adi.
The DKI Jakarta Korfball Provincial Government recently won the overall champion at the Aceh National Sports Week (PON). This achievement prompted them to be more aggressive in socializing this sport.
Adi hopes that activities such as coaching clinics can be held regularly as a fun Korfball event and the introduction of basic techniques. However, he also revealed the obstacles faced, one of which is the limited field for Korfball in DKI Jakarta.
"Hopefully in the future there will be an official Korfball league or tournament in Indonesia. In Porprov alone it has not been contested, but we are optimistic that this year the National Championships can be held," he said.
Coach Raymond Mollet admitted that he was impressed with the potential of Indonesian athletes. According to him, in the next five to six years, Indonesia has the opportunity to become one of the top teams in Asia.
"The potential of athletes in Indonesia, especially in DKI Jakarta, is very good. Body posture is not an obstacle in Korfball, the most important thing is the intelligence of play, agility, and the ability to work together in the team," said Raymond.
The sport of Korfball is still relatively new in Indonesia and not as popular as other sports such as basketball or futsal. However, the unique format of the game involving male and female players in one team is an attraction in itself.
The DKI Jakarta Korfball Provincial Government sees the momentum of Coach Raymond's arrival as a golden opportunity to increase the popularity of Korfball.
