Ban Pressure Penalty Considered Intensive, Marc Marquez Asks MotoGP Rules To Change

Marc Marquez asked for the MotoGP tire pressure rules to be changed (Instagram/@motoGP).

JAKARTA - Ducati racer, Marc Marquez, expressed his views on the penalty for penalties set by MotoGP due to tire pressure. The Spaniard assessed that the sanctions were burdensome and asked for the rules to be changed.

In fact, Marquez supports MotoGP regulations regarding tire pressure. However, the implementation of penalties due to violations of tire pressure was considered too heavy.

In the 2025 MotoP, there are a number of moments involving tire pressure regulations. Interestingly, Marquez was involved in the case several times.

Quoted from Crash, at the Czech MotoGP 2025, Marquez received a warning on the motorcycle dashboard that he was in danger of failing to finish 30 percent of the race because he did not reach the minimum pressure on the front tire.

Because of that problem, Marquez had time to give Pedrodecana the lead in the race. After reaching the ideal limit, Marquez was able to overtake Askosta and ensure his victory.

A similar incident also occurred in the 2025 Thailand MotoGP, at which time Marquez inevitably gave way to Alex Marquez.

Not only Marquez, Maverick Vinales of Tech3 is also one of the drivers who was awarded a penalty for violating this tire pressure. Due to a violation of tire pressure in MotoGP Qatar 2025, Vinales was awarded a penalty of 16 seconds.

The punishment was too heavy and Marquez wanted a penalty reduction.

"I agree with the rule because in the end it was a safety rule. It was true that the penalty, in my opinion, was too heavy."

"I would say, yes, the seconds could be less," Marquez was quoted as saying by Crash, Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

MotoGP currently imposes penalties after a race of +8 seconds for the Sprint Race and +16 seconds for the main race (Grand Prix) if a rider fails to complete the required round percentage (30 percent for the Sprint, 60 percent for the GP) above the minimum pressure.

"For me, reduce the penalty to half. For example, four seconds for Sprint and eight seconds for a long race. That would make more sense."

"Now, eight seconds for Sprint and 16 seconds for the race are a huge penalty and better wait for the others," said Marquez.
