Real Madrid Pre-season Training Only 15 Days Before La Liga's First Match

JAKARTA - Real Madrid started pre-season training on Monday, August 4, 2025, under new coach Xabi Alonso - just 15 days before the first match in La Liga 2025/2026.

Real Madrid's first team reportedly served at the club's training ground in Valdebebasilon Monday morning. The players also underwent medical tests before the training session at 18.00 local time.

Los Blancos' inaugural match in La Liga will bring them together with Osasuna on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid have asked for the match to be postponed, arguing that the team will not have enough time to prepare for the match after their involvement in the 2025 Club World Cup ends on July 9, 2025 in the semifinals.

A Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) judge rejected the request last week. They decided that although the collective agreement governing Spanish football included a minimum requirement of 21 holiday days for the players, there was no such obligation for a minimum physical and tactical preparation time ahead of the new season.

The holiday period ended last week. Real Madrid players are now starting pre-season training just two weeks before their first game of the season.

The team will play a pre-season friendly against WSG Tirol at the Innsbruck, Austria, 12 August 2025, as part of their preparations.

Meanwhile, Alonso took over Real Madrid ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup - after Carlo Ancelotti left the club in the 2024/2025 season without a prestigious trophy.

The Spaniard led Los Blancos to the semifinals of the 2025 Club World Cup, where they were beaten 0-4 by Paris Saint-Germain.

Real Madrid have also recruited Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen, Alvaro Carreras, and Franco Mastantuono, who flew to Real Madrid this weekend.

Mastantuono will join the team when he turns 18 next week - as they want to improve performance from the 2024/2025 season.

ESPN reports that Los Blancos are not considering further recruitment unless there are players who leave first.

The team started the season without midfielder Jude Bellingham, who underwent shoulder surgery after the 2025 Club World Cup.

Likewise with Endrick, who suffered a setback in recovering from a hamstring injury.
