JAKARTA Men's singles badminton player Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah or who is familiarly called Ubed, managed to overcome the first obstacle at the Macau Open 2025.

The 2025 Badminton Asia Junior Championship (BAJC) champion qualified for the second half after eliminating Denmark's singles, Mads Christophersen, in two games 21-19 and 21-16 on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

Ubed had a tight first and second game. He was forced by opponents to rise from behind and secure victory.

During the first game, the 18-year-old badminton player was far behind, namely 4-8 and 9-13. Meanwhile, in the second game he scored four consecutive points to turn things 7-9 and continue to lead afterwards.

"Earlier, my game at the beginning was less tight, the way of playing was still hesitant. In the second game, I started to find the right rhythm, it started to feel good. The focus has also begun to be maintained. Hopefully tomorrow it can be better," said Ubed.

Ubed further said that he set a target to be able to penetrate the last eight or semifinals at this Super 300 BWF level event.

"After the Asian Junior champion, there must be additional confidence but I have to be able to control myself, because the opponent here is already senior, different from yesterday," he said.

Ubed is one of four Indonesian men's singles playing in Macau. He took part with Alwi Farhan, Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, and Yohanes Saut Marcellyno who fought from the qualifying round.

If Alwi's journey was smooth in the first half against Cheam June Wei (Malaysia) then there would be a civil war against Ubed in the second half.
