Beating Dubois In Five Rounds, Usyk Three Times Becomes A True World Champion

JAKARTA When accepting the challenge of British boxer Daniel Dubois, Oleksandr Usyk's motivation was only one, namely to become the first successful boxer three times to become a true world champion. The Ukrainian boxer had become a true champion in cruiserweight (2018) and heavyweight (2024). Located at Wembley Stadium, London on Sunday morning WIB (20/7), Usyk again became a true heavyweight champion after KO Dubois in five rounds.

After defeating Tyson Fury in the first duel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on May 18, 2024, Usyk holds the true heavyweight title for the first time. Four titles from four world boxing bodies he wore: WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO. But then he released the IBF version, and the title was won by Dubois after overthrowing Anthony Joshua at Wembley on September 21, 2024.

Two years ago Dubois tried to disturb Usyk's title, by challenging him to duel in WroClaw, Poland on August 26, 2023. But Dubois failed, after giving up on KO in the 9th round. Apparently the British boxer did not lose, and again challenged the Ukrainian genius boxer who was the gold winner of the 2012 London Olympics.

Superior in posture, weight and energy is not enough for Dubois (27 years) to avenge his defeat to Usyk (38 years old). Usyk is still too agile, even though he is two years old after their first duel.

Thanks to Usyk's accurate agility, speed and stroke twice brought down Dubois in the 5th round of the scheduled 12. One right hook brought down Dubois, but he was able to bounce back before referee Michael Griffin completed 10 counts.

However, Dubois' condition had not yet 100 percent recovered when he returned to attack Usyk. The popcorn of Usyk's punches, which was covered by a left hook right in Dubois' right jaw, again knocked him down. This time Dubois was really beat, unable to get up until referee Griffin finished 10 counts.

"Umur 38 is still young, and this is not the end of my career. In fact, I entered a new chapter in my career. Maybe there are two more fights that I want to go through. About the opponent, it could be Tyson Fury, Derreck Chisora, Joseph Parker, or anyone else. What is clear is that in the past two months I want to rest and enjoy the moments of gathering with my family," Usyk said after the match, which was broadcast live streaming on DAZN.

Oleksandr Usyk has not been beaten or held to a draw in 24 matches, of which 15 have won through KO/TKO. Apart from being the first person to become a true world champion three times, he is also the first boxer to become a true heavyweight champion since British boxer Lennox Lewis got him almost 26 years ago!
