French Final Opens 2025: Aryna Sabalenka Vs. Coco Gauff Who Will Be Roland Garros' New Queen?

JAKARTA The battle to determine the French title Open women's singles sector will be hot on Saturday 7 June at Philippe-Chatrier Square. The world's top two seeds, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff, face each other for their first title at Roland Garros.

For the first time since the finals of the Australian Open 2018 (Halep vs Wozniacki) and at Roland Garros since 2013 (Serena Williams vs Sharapova), the world's two highest ranking players will clash each other in the Grand Slam final. Sabalenka (No. 1 world) stepped into the final after stopping the dominance of Iga Swiatek in the semifinals, deciding 26 wins in a row the reigning champion and thwarting Swiatek's efforts to win four consecutive titles.

Sabalenka's dramatic victory over Swiatek, 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-0, was also Swiatek's first defeat at Roland Garros in the last 1,457 days. Now, the Belarusian is chasing his fourth Grand Slam title in his sixth career final.

Tournament Travel: Sabalenka And Gauff

Sabalenka has been dominant since the early stages:

R1: beat Kamilla Rakhimova 6-1, 6-0

R2: win over Jil Teichmann 6-3, 6-1

R3: Overcoming Olga Danilovic 6-2, 6-3

R16: winning over Amanda Anisimova 7-5, 6-3

Quarter-finals: beat Qinwen Zheng 7-6(3), 6-3

Semifinals: Break Swiatek's Hope 7-6(1), 4-6, 6-0

While Coco Gauff, the second seed from the United States, has only lost a set throughout the tournament and shows much different maturity than the first final at Roland Garros in 2022:

R1: beat Olivia Gadecki 6-2, 6-2

R2: win over Tereza Valentova 6-2, 6-4

R3: Submit Marie Bouzkova 6-1, 7-6(3)

R16: Overcome Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-0, 7-5

Quarter-finals: coming back from the defeat to the first set against Madison Keys 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-1

Semifinals: Destroying French Wildcard Lois BOisson 6-1, 6-2

Meeting Record: 5-5, Tight Rivality

From the previous ten meetings, the two shared the win with a 5-5 draw. In the Madrid final last month, Sabalenka won two straight sets over Gauff (6-3, 7-6), but Gauff also had a sweet memory of defeating Sabalenka in the final of the US Open 2023. Interestingly, in the clay field, both of them also beat each other once.

Sabalenka did become the main seed and performed outstandingly this year, reaching three Grand Slam finals in a row. However, the final record is quite balanced (20 wins 17 defeats), showing that big moments do not always side with him.

On the other hand, Gauff appeared more stable in the final games (10-4), even though the last two finals ended in defeat. He appeared much more mature, had minimal mistakes, and showed strong self-control at Roland Garros 2025.

Although Sabalenka came with great confidence and extraordinary beating power, Gauff has athletic abilities, tactical intelligence, and calm that can make a difference. If Gauff is able to suppress his own mistakes, especially in terms of foreplay and service, his chances of winning are very open.

This final is not only about physical strength, but also mental and strategy. And we predict, Coco Gauff will add to its collection of second Grand Slam titles in Paris, as well as avenge Roland Garros 2022's final defeat sweetly.
