Ancelotti Confirms His Departure From Real Madrid: No Drama

Carlo Ancelotti said there was no need for drama when he confirmed his planned departure from Real Madrid. He acknowledged that the team needed a new push.

Ancelotti also confirmed that he will be the new head coach of the Brazilian National Team. The Italian coach will start duty on May 26, 2025, when the La Liga season ends with Real Madrid.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, ahead of Real Madrid's match against Real Mallorca, Ancelotti was reluctant to discuss why his club had not yet inaugurated his departure.

"Real Madrid will issue a statement whenever they want, there's no problem there."

"They will do it at the right time for Real Madrid. (Brazil) is a big challenge, but until May 26, 2025, I am still Real Madrid coach."

"I want to end the final stages of this fantastic adventure well. On the basis of my respect for this club, supporters, and players, I'm really focused," said Ancelotti.

Ancelotti declined to say when he would start wanting to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season despite having a contract until June 2026.

"What I'm talking about with the club is really private. Football, like life, is an adventure that begins and ends."

"When you arrive at Real Madrid, you know that one day everything will end."

"I want to end everything well here, that's what my professionalism demands," said the coach.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid were beaten 3-4 by Barcelona in El Clasico on Sunday, May 11, 2025, which left them seven points behind leaders La Liga.

The result means Barcelona will certainly win if Real Madrid fail to beat Mallorca, or if Blagurana beats Espanyol on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

Ancelotti came under growing pressure after the disappointing season at the Bernabeu.

Los Blancos were eliminated in the Champions League quarter-finals and defeated by Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final.

Then, El Clasico's defeat at the weekend effectively ended their hopes of winning the league title, meaning they would end the domestic season without major trophies.

"I can't be Real Madrid coach forever. That's for many reasons, maybe the club needs a new push."

"It's a normal thing in life, there's no need for drama. Maybe it's time to change, that's all. It's a joint decision to end it here," said Ancelotti.

Ancelotti has long been linked to the Brazilian National Team. He is a candidate chosen by the President of CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, because he had previously considered having Ancelotti occupy the post in 2023.

The Italian coach did not want to reveal why CBF felt the need to announce its recruitment on Monday, May 12, 2025, when his departure from Real Madrid had not been formalized.

"I really love Xabi Alonso. I don't have much advice for him because he has all the ability to become a great coach in the future," said Ancelotti, when asked about the arrival of his former player.
