Plans For The Departure Of The Indonesian National Team To Australia For The 2026 World Cup Qualification

The Indonesian national team departed for Australia in stages (VOI/Ferry Tri Adi Sasono).

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team will face Australia in the continued match of the 2026 World Cup Qualification. PSSI General Chairperson (Ketum), Erick Thohir, revealed plans for the departure of the Garuda Squad to Sydney.

The away match to The Socceroos headquarters will take place on March 20, 2025. The departure of players and officials is divided into several stages.

The player playing in Liga 1 is scheduled to leave for Sydney first on Sunday, March 16, 2025.

"The Indonesian national team will start departing part of its team. Its official yesterday (Thursday, March 13, 2025) has landed."

"God willing, tonight I have a plan for dinner with them to review all preparations," said Erick Thohir in a statement quoted on Friday, March 14, 2025.

"Some will depart tomorrow (Saturday, March 15, 2025), but the core team will depart on March 16, 2025 evening," he continued.

Regarding the arrival of players who take part abroad, such as Europe and the United States, Erick revealed that the players had only arrived in Australia as early as March 17, 2025.

"We know that many players from Europe or the United States are still playing matches on the 15th and 16th (March 2025)."

"So, most of our players who play abroad have just landed in Australia on 17 and 18 (March 2025). On March 19, 2025, they will practice, on March 20, 2025," said the chairman of PSSI.

Ahead of the match against Australia and Bahrain, the Indonesian national team was dominated by abroad players. Of the 30 players called, 21 of them are players who play abroad.

Of the 30 names called, only 29 can attend. You see, Dewa United player, Egy Maulana Vikri, will not be brought to the match against Australia due to injury.

"So, they entered the slot of 30 players. Unfortunately, Egy was injured, so 29 departed (to Australia). Later they will be re-elected as 23 players," said Erick Thohir.
