JAKARTA - Former Real Madrid and Brazilian defender Marcelo has announced his 36-year-old resignation in a video posted to social media on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
The left-back enjoyed one of the most successful football careers in terms of winning trophies, winning five Champions League titles and six La Liga wins for 19 years.
"My story as a player ends here, but I still have a lot to give football," Marcelo said in a video showing footage of his brilliant career.
Marcelo also enjoyed the trophy-packed days in his home country with Fluminense, especially when helping them lift the Copa Libertadores in 2023 after leaving Real Madrid.

"One of the greatest left-backs in the history of Real Madrid and world football. We have the privilege of watching it for a long time," Madrid president Florentino Perez said of the news.
"He is one of our greatest legends and Real Madrid will always be his home," he said again.
Marcelo played 58 times for Brazil's Nasal Team, scoring six goals. He never lifted a major international trophy despite part of the squad that won the 2013 Confederation Cup at home.
He also won silver and bronze medals with his respective countries at the 2012 and 2008 Olympics.
