Destroying Ipswich With Six Goals, Pep Guardiola: Man City Is Back

JAKARTA - Manchester City managed to return to the Champions League zone after destroying Ipswich Town 6-0. in a duel in the English Premier League, Sunday, January 19, 2024 evening WIB. Manager Pep Gurdiola said Man City had returned.

The storm that beat Man City has passed. Weeks of slump and always losing if not playing a draw, Man City finally returned to winning ways.

Man City have actually returned to track in their 2-0 win over Leicester City. They then beat West Ham United 4-1. Guardiola only revealed that the Cityzens had not fully recovered. And right, Man City was then arrested by Brentford 2-2.

But they were completely on the right track when they slaughtered Ipswich. The big win also brought Man City back to the Champions League zone.

"We are happy. We have returned to being like the team 10 years ago. We are happy to be able to get the three points and return to the Champions League zone," said Guardiola.

"The team's performance is much better even though it's not the best of us. But we are closer to consistency. Players play smarter and faster and combined. You can't play fast and good if the defense doesn't wake up well," he said.

Victory over Ipswich made Man City improve their rankings. They moved up to fourth after pocketing 38 points. Similar to Newcastle United who failed to add points after losing 4-1 against Bournemouth. But Man City were ahead on goal difference so Newcastle was forced to drop to fifth.

In that match, Man City completely dominated. However, Ipswich is still trying to keep up with the hosts' game for the first 25 minutes.

After many failures, midfielder Phil Foden finally broke the deadlock in the 27th minute. The goal started with Jeremy Doku's collaboration with Kevin De Bruyne which was then completed by Foden.

Winning 1-0 makes Man City more aggressive in suppressing the opponent's defense. They didn't take long to increase their lead. Only three minutes later, midfielder Mateo Kovacic changed the score to 2-0. The Croatian national team player managed to complete Foden's assist.

Foden showed his best performance in the match. In fact, he then scored a brace towards the end of the first half. Foden's second goal, which was created in the 4-2 minute, changed the position to 3-0 and lasted until halftime.

In the second half, Man City remained unstoppable and excelled in possession. The hosts were unable to develop the game and defended more.
