Thierry Henry Quits Montreal, Signals To Bournemouth?

JAKARTA - CF Montreal on Thursday night announced Thierry Henry officially resigned from the chair of the United States MLS club, amid rumors of a job offer from England's second caste club, Bournemouth.

The release of the official Montreal website stated that Henry conveyed the family reasons as the basis for his resignation from his job in Montreal, which he had been doing since November 14, 2019.

"It is with a heavy heart that I take this decision. The past year has been very difficult for me personally," Henry said.

"Due to the pandemic, I cannot see the children. Unfortunately the new restrictions and the fact that Montreal has to flee to the US for a few more months will not change the situation," he added.

Henry admitted that the separation from his children was too hard to live with, so he had to return to London, England, leaving Montreal.

Montreal management regrets Henry's decision but also admits they can understand why.

"It's unfortunate and too premature, because our project is very promising, but he expressed the desire to reunite with his family," said Montreal Sports Director Olivier Renard.

Last season, Henry was able to see Montreal take part in the playoffs for the first time since 2016, after posting eight wins, two draws and 13 defeats in the regular phase.

Henry also led Montreal to reach the 2020 CONCACAF Champions League quarter-finals, where their steps had to be stopped because of away goals in 2-2 on aggregate against representatives of Honduras, Olimpia.

In recent weeks, Henry's name has been widely reported as a candidate Bournemouth is looking for as a new coach after they fired Jason Tindall earlier this month.
