JAKARTA - Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp thinks it's ridiculous if he talks about his team's chances of defending the title amidst a series of bad results being experienced.
Liverpool have just had to say goodbye to their unbeaten home trend that stopped at 68 when they were beaten by Burnley 0-1 in Week 19 of the Premier League at Anfield on Thursday local time (Friday WIB).
This result at the same time makes Liverpool now have five games without tasting a win and the last four games have failed to score a single goal against the opponent's goal.
The goal drought trend is quite ironic considering that Liverpool are still listed as the Premier League's top scorer this season with a collection of 37 goals in 19 matches.
"How ridiculous I am sitting here, after losing to Burnley, not scoring in the last three or four games and being asked to talk about winning chances," Klopp said in post-match comments quoted by Antara from Liverpool's official website.
"What we have to do is win games and for that we have to score goals, it's that simple. That's a situation we have to change and solve," he added.
On the other hand, with a streak of five games without a win, Klopp admits Liverpool are currently in an unlucky period.
"Granted we are in a period of disadvantage, but it seems too cheap an excuse to say," he said.
"I think our problem is decision making. That is the reason why we failed to score in the last few games," concluded Klopp.
Before running five games with a goal drought, Liverpool scored seven goals against Crystal Palace from just seven consecutive shots on target.
Then since then, Liverpool have fired no less than 90 attempted shots - 17 of which met the target - and only got one goal against West Bromwich Albion on 27 December.
In the match against Burnley Liverpool even fired 27 attempted shots over the full 90 minutes and six of them hit the mark, but none of them managed to get past goalkeeper Nick Pope.
A series of poor results experienced by Liverpool have made them now scattered from the title race and stuck in fourth place with a collection of 34 points, six points behind Manchester United who are at the top.
Liverpool will next visit United's headquarters in the FA Cup fourth round match hoping that their infertility problem will soon pass.
