Startling! Indonesian Basketball National Team Announces Change Of Coach One Day Before FIBA Asia Cup 2022

JAKARTA - Perbasi made a surprising move ahead of the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup. The parent of the national basketball sport changed the national team coach the day before the grand tournament was held.

Rajko Toroman's position was replaced by Milos Pejic. Reportedly, Toroman resigned from his position even though he was still under contract until the end of the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup.

The manager of the Indonesian basketball team, Jeremy Santoso, said the change of coach had been carried out long ago. Toroman was also invited to discuss this matter.

According to him, this is the result of a long-term evaluation and a joint decision. Toroman also decided.

"We sat down with all parties. After the evaluation results, we felt okay when the SEA Games was very good with Milos' leadership. Coach Toro resigned and that was a mutual agreement," said Jerry, as reported by Antara.

"This decision may seem sudden. Perbasi and BTN have been talking about this for a long time, maybe since after the SEA Games," he continued.

Jerry added that his party saw that there was a similarity in the training system between Pejic and Toroman. He said Pejic was a student of Toroman.

"This decision will not change our system. This will be a challenge as well as a breath of fresh air for our team," he said.

The Indonesian basketball team will start the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup Group A elimination against Saudi Arabia, Tuesday, July 12. Two days later, the Red and White team will face Jordan.
