Villarreal Overtakes Barcelona In La Liga Standings After 3 Goals Party Over Mallorca

JAKARTA - The Villarreal player smiled sweetly after ending the match in week 22 of the 2021/2022 Spanish League with a win. The reason, from the meeting with Mallorca they were able to overtake Barcelona's position in the ranks of the standings.

In a match that took place on Saturday, January 22 night, Villarreal were able to secure a convincing victory against Mallorca at the El Madrigal Stadium.

In that match, Villarreal was able to close the duel with a 3-0 win without reply. Interestingly, of the three goals that Villarreal made in that match, only one goal was the pure effort of The Yellow Submarine players.

Villarreal's opening goal was actually contributed by Mallorca's Franco Russo where he struck the ball into his own team's goal when the game had only been running for 12 minutes.

Quoted from Football Espana, after making a blunder at the start of the match, Mallorca tried to make amends and catch up. But their efforts did not necessarily bear fruit.

Instead of equalizing the score to 1-1, Mallorca fell behind again by Villarreal who doubled the position to 2-0. The hosts' second goal was created by Manu Trigueros in the 34th minute after getting an assist from Alfonso Pedraza.

After securing two goals, Villarreal continued to make distance from the visitors. Towards the end of the match, Dani Parejo then perfected Villarreal's 3-0 victory through the penalty spot when the match took place in the 87th minute.

Villarreal's unanswered victory over Mallorca in this match certainly added their points to ensure their position in the standings.

Interestingly, the three points in week 22 allowed Unai Emery's team to overtake the Spanish giants Barcelona in the standings.

How not, Barcelona is still stuck in 7th place with 32 points. While Villarreal was able to overtake to 6th position in the standings with the same number of points and only the difference in the number of matches.
