Officially Become An Assistant Coach At An Italian Club, Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto: I Can't Imagine, I've Never Had A Dream

JAKARTA – Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto has officially become the assistant coach of Italian club FC Como. The Indonesian football legend admitted that he never imagined the trust he had received.

Kurniawan himself conveyed the certainty of becoming Como's assistant coach on the Accuracy YouTube channel which was uploaded on Thursday, January 13. However, he has not been able to go to Italy due to the spread of the new variant of COVID-19 Omicron.

"I can't imagine, yes. I've never had a dream either," said the player, who currently plays as an attacker.

Como managed to move up to Serie B last season after successfully winning the Italian Serie C 2020-2021 season. After that success, a club official immediately contacted Kurniawan.

The problem was that Kurniawan was still under contract with Sabah FC, so he was forced to refuse the Italian club's offer. Negotiations were resumed after the former Indonesian national team player was sacked by the Malaysian club at the end of August 2021.

"But I said, I am still under contract with Sabah FC. If there is luck, my contract with Sabah FC expires in December 2021. Maybe this is the way to go. I communicated again and they still accepted me," he said.

Kurniawan should have joined Como this month. However, this has not been realized because the Italian government has not been able to issue visas due to the widespread Omicron variant.

"I started coming on December 2 in Indonesia because I wanted to apply for a visa to Italy only because of Omicron, the work permit in Italy is no longer issued. So I'm waiting," said Kurniawan.
