Omicron Threatens Manchester United Vs Young Boys Match Next Week

JAKARTA - The final match of the Champions League group stage between Manchester United and Young Boys on December 8 is in danger of being moved to a neutral venue due to the new variant of the Omicron coronavirus.

Last Saturday, Switzerland imposed new rules on visitors from the UK and other countries who were detected as having cases of the new variant of COVID-19.

With no exceptions for elite sports listed in the new strict rules, the Young Boys squad must self-isolate for 10 days upon their return from England.

UEFA has reportedly spoken to the Swiss government about the future of the match after the new travel rules were introduced.

A UEFA statement Monday afternoon as reported by The Athletic website said: "UEFA is in contact with the Football Association, Swiss Football Association, and both clubs regarding this matter."

"We will publish this information further if and when it has been confirmed by the relevant authorities," quoted from Antara.

Any change of venue usually has a huge financial impact on United who just announced Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager Monday.

When United traveled to Switzerland, Young Boys had the stock to beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team 2-1.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was shown a straight red card 10 minutes before the break for making a reckless tackle on Christopher Martins.

The winning goal in the 95th minute scored by Theoson Siebatcheu led Young Boys to get three points.
