JAKARTA - The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) regrets that there are police officers who are suspected of selling ammunition to the Papuan Armed Criminal Group (KKB) because this act is a form of betrayal of the Indonesian National Police and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

"If they are proven to be right in selling ammunition to the KKB, then they are traitors," said Kompolnas member Poengky Indarti, quoted by Antara, Friday, October 29.

Two Papuan Police personnel from the Nabire Police and the Yapen Police were arrested by the Nemangkawi Operations Task Force in Nabire, for allegedly being involved in selling ammunition to KKB.

Poengky said the actions of these police officers from the Nabire Police and the Yapen Police should be severely punished, such as the death penalty.

"If proven true, must be severely punished," said Poengky firmly.

According to Poengky, the actions of the two police officers can be charged with the Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951.

Based on the Act, the actions of the two people can be sentenced to death or life imprisonment.

"Or a maximum imprisonment of 20 years," he said.

Poengky said this incident was contrary to the efforts of the Police and the TNI who are members of the Nemangkawi Task Force who are trying to eradicate KKB in Papua.

The KKB, which is labeled a terrorist by the government, has terrorized the people and security forces in Papua.

"It is ironic, on the one hand, the National Police and the TNI who are members of the Nemangkawi Task Force are trying to eradicate the KKB in Papua, which has terrorized the public and security forces, but on the other hand there are police officers who are selling ammunition to the KKB," said Poengky.

As previously reported, the Direskrimum of the Papuan Police, Kombes Faizal Rahmadani, confirmed the arrest of two police officers suspected of being involved in selling ammunition.

He explained that the two personnel arrested on Wednesday (27/10) were Brigadier JO, a member of the Nabire Police and the AS Bripda, a member of the Yapen Police, and both have been detained at the Papua Regional Police for further investigation.

Kombes Faizal said that when he was arrested, no evidence of ammunition was found because it was suspected that it had been sold, so investigators were still investigating the person concerned.

"Both of them are indicated to have sold the ammunition to KKB but to which group is being investigated," said Kombes Faizal.

To note, Nabire Regency often experiences security disturbances by KKB, because it is one of the areas that can reach various surrounding districts by land and air, including Intan Jaya, Puncak, and Puncak Jaya.
