PAN Wants 4 Presidential Candidates In 2024

JAKARTA - The National Mandate Party (PAN) hopes that four pairs of candidates will emerge in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres). This is to avoid polarization in the community such as the 2019 election event.

"Not only two or three axes, if necessary there are four candidates. We hope that in the future," said PAN politician Guspardi Gaus to reporters, Thursday, October 28.

Guspardi assessed that a number of political parties have prepared presidential candidates for the 2024 presidential election. For example, Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto, PKB chairman Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, PDI-P Puan Maharani, and Golkar chairman Airlangga Hartarto.

"Ganjar out of nowhere," he said.

The more presidential candidates, according to Guspardi, it will give people the opportunity to freely choose without any polarization of the two camps in society.

"Hopefully these four will advance. So we hope that in 2024 there will be not only two candidates, but if you get at least three, if you get four more. Who is it? Whatever, the parties will definitely open up space," he continued.

Guspardi, who is also a member of Commission II of the DPR, said that the problem was the presidential threshold regulation in the Election Law which had not been revised by parliament.

If the rules still apply the 20 percent threshold, according to him, the four pairs of candidates for the next 2024 will be tough.

"Referring to the old law, the minimum percentage was 20 percent. If 20 percent for five candidates is not possible, four is a bit heavy, at least three are very possible. Hopefully there are four candidates, that's our hope," said Guspardi.
