JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, said that the DKI Provincial Government will be more stringent in conducting health checks for Transjakarta bus drivers due to an accident some time ago.
This is in response to the DKI DPRD's suggestion that Transjakarta management conduct regular health checks on its drivers. This aims to minimize the risk of accidents.
"I think I agree. The recommendations from DPRD friends are good, yes. Later, of course, Transjakarta will conduct an evaluation regarding working hours, we will re-evaluate their health, we will improve them again," Riza told reporters, Thursday, October 28.
Riza views the job as a Transjakarta driver is not easy. Even though there is a division of working hours, they must always have excellent health conditions.
This is because the way to drive a Transjakarta bus is different from driving other vehicles, with a special narrow lane. Thus, high concentration is required.
"Driving on the busway is straight, then left and right there are barriers. It's heavier, you have to focus more, concentrate more. It's really boring and makes you sleepy," said Riza.
"It's not the same if we take a car on public roads. So, later we need to find the best solution so that we don't get sleepy, don't get bored, stay focused, and don't get tired," he continued.
Previously, the Chairman of Commission B of the DKI DPRD, Abdul Aziz, asked PT Transportation Jakarta (Transjakarta) to provide a clinic at each depot to check the health condition of the driver.
This was revealed in a meeting of Commission B with the agenda of asking Transjakarta for clarification on the case of the accident of two Transjakarta buses which resulted in the death of two people.
"Our proposal is to have a clinic in every depot. Tomorrow or tomorrow, before the driver performs operations, there must be a clinic that checks whether he is sleepy or not, his blood pressure is normal or not. There is a doctor who will control it," Aziz said on Wednesday, October 27.
Aziz sees this as necessary to prevent the Transjakarta bus accident from happening again. Given that so far, Tansjakarta has only checked the condition of the driver in the form of a statement letter.
"When I want to operate, (the driver) is controlled first, not just filling out forms, I am healthy," he said.
In addition, the DPRD also asked Transjakarta to explain the chronology of the accident that occurred on Monday, October 25. Then, related to the handling of victims to mitigation efforts.
