JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has imposed a fine for motorized vehicles that do not pass the emission test on November 13. The application of the fine was carried out after a nine-month delay after the regulation was issued.

This is in accordance with DKI Governor Regulation Number 66 of 2020 concerning Motor Vehicle Exhaust Emission Tests. This regulation takes effect six months after being promulgated in July 2020. However, due to the pandemic, enforcement of this regulation has only taken effect now.

"Motorcycles and cars that do not pass the emission test will be effectively subject to sanctions in the DKI Jakarta area. The implementation, which was hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic, is being re-enforced as part of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government's aggressive steps to reduce the contribution of emissions from motorized vehicles which are the main source of air pollution. in DKI Jakarta," said Head of the DKI Environmental Agency Asep Kuswanto to reporters, Tuesday, October 26.

Asep explained that the obligation for motorbikes and cars that pass through the capital city to carry out emission tests and pass the emission quality standards is very important in an effort to improve Jakarta's air quality.

This, said Asep, is also in line with the demands of the citizen lawsuit, which in its ruling ordered the imposition of sanctions for moving sources, namely motorized vehicles that pollute the air or fail to pass the emission test.

"Hopefully, efforts to create clean air in Jakarta are supported by all parties," said Asep.

The application of fines is regulated in Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation. The regulation regulates sanctions for vehicles whose exhaust gas does not meet quality standards since 12 years ago.

In Articles 285 and 286 of Law No. 22 of 2009, the threat of a maximum fine of IDR 250,000 for motorbikes and a maximum fine of IDR 500,000 for cars.

"It's time for us to enforce the law for the common interest in realizing clean air in the capital," he concluded.
