Floods Submerge Hundreds Of Houses In Mamuju, Sulbar

MAMUJU - Floods caused by the overflowing of the Kalukku River caused hundreds of houses and the Trans Sulawesi road in Kalukku District, Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi (Sulbar) to be submerged.

Floods hit a number of villages in the northern part of Kalukku District, including Pokkang Village and also submerged the Trans Sulawesi road in Mamuju Regency, Monday, October 25.

According to local residents, the flood has become a regular during the rainy season, so it needs the attention of the local government

"It is necessary to normalize the river with embankments or drainage, so that when river water overflows it does not inundate residents' settlements," said Karmal, one of the residents, quoted by Antara.

He said that the floods that occur every time in the rainy season are detrimental to the community, because their agricultural land is submerged and also causes livestock to be washed away.

The government is expected to carry out flood control measures, so that floods no longer haunt the community when it rains.

The same thing was said by Amri, residents continued to clean their houses due to puddles of water and mud as high as human knees.

"The current flood did not damage residential houses, but submerged valuables belonging to the community in hundreds of settlements," he said.

Amri hopes that the flood due to the overflow of the Kalukku River can be anticipated so that the community does not suffer losses.
