MEDAN - Deli Serdang Police, North Sumatra, revealed the use of a fake COVID-19 PCR swab test result at Kualanamu Airport.

From the disclosure, the police named a suspect named Ahmad (51), a private employee from the Namorambe sub-district, Deli Serdang.

Deli Serdang Deputy Chief of Police, AKBP Julianto P Sirait said the incident of using a fake PCR letter was revealed in the terminal area of the 2nd floor of Kualanamu Airport, on Tuesday, October 19, afternoon.

Initially, the airport checked the PCR test of one of the airport passengers named Desri Natalia Sinaga.

"Desri was arrested for showing a PCR test result which was allegedly fake," said AKBP Julianto, Friday, October 22.

When questioned, Desri said the letter came from the Jemadi Clinic. Desri admitted to doing PCR on Monday, October 18.

"Then the Jemadi clinic who was contacted by telephone said that he had never made a PCR examination result letter on behalf of Desri Natalia," he said.

To the police, Desri admitted that he made the PCR letter through a travel employee at Kualanamu Airport named Ahmad. The police then moved and arrested Ahmad.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Deli Serdang Police, Kompol M Firdaus, said that the suspect's mode of action began when he observed Desri's movements, who looked confused. Because at that time, Desri did not have a PCR test certificate.

"At that time, the suspect took the moment to offer his services, made a PCR swab and it was guaranteed to be safe. So that the prospective passenger received services from the suspect," said Kompol Firdaus.

"The suspect then made a swab that was allegedly fake and an hour later gave it to the prospective passenger before leaving for Jakarta," he continued.

From the results of the investigation, the suspect admitted that he had made this fake PCR letter twice.

"The first was a week ago to be exact on October 12 and the last one was on October 19, 2021, the first one managed to leave with a selling price of Rp. 750 thousand," he continued.

The suspect is charged with Article 263 of the Criminal Code and the Health Quarantine Law, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
