Even Though Jakarta Has Entered The Formula E Host Calendar, PDIP Still Urges Interception

JAKARTA - Member of the PDIP faction of the DKI DPRD Gilbert Simanjuntak said that his party still urges the interpellation right for Formula E. Even though, currently Jakarta has been included in the calendar for hosting the Formula E event on June 4, 2022.

Because, said Gilbert, there are still many oddities in the planning for the implementation of Formula E that has not been explained by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan and his subordinates.

"This should all be answered openly and officially at the DPRD Plenary Session with the interpellation proposed by the DPRD. The right of interpellation will still be submitted so that everything is clear and the people are not harmed," Gilbert said in his statement to VOI, Saturday, October 16.

Gilbert exposed the oddity. First, the issue of the location of the circuit which has not been decided by the DKI Provincial Government.

Before the pandemic, the circuit was determined in the National Monument area. Until finally canceled due to licensing issues. Then, the circuit option in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area has also been rejected by the DKI Provincial Government previously.

Then, Deputy Governor of DKI, Ahmad Riza Patria, revealed that the reclamation island is one of the circuit choices. In fact, the soil structure there is still soft and DKI is facing the problem of land subsidence.

"The selection of the reclamation island that BRIN stated has the problem of land subsidence in addition to the trees at Monas that have been deforested, creates a big question mark why it must be forced without a study and not pro-environment," said Gilbert.

Second, Gilbert also questioned why the BUMD PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) was not open about funding Formula E in the future. They only claim that Formula E no longer uses the APBD and will get sponsors.

"Even if the new MoU agreement is for example B2B, because Jakpro is not open about its contents, it is clear that it has used public money of Rp560 billion. We suspect that no private sector is involved, but it is strongly suspected that it used CSR money," he said.

As is known, the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris approved the calendar for the 8th season of the 2021/2022 season on October 15 yesterday. As a result, Jakarta officially became the host of Formula E on June 4, 2022.

Entering the 8th season, Formula E will be held in Diriyah (Saudi Arabia), Rome, Monaco, Berlin, Vancouver, New York, London and Seoul. Formula E in Jakarta, will be the first of three races to be held in succession.
