KPK Confirms There Never Was An 'Insider' Azis Syamsuddin

JAKARTA - Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Karyoto asserted that he had never found any evidence of the existence of 'insiders' to secure former Deputy Speaker of the DPR Azis Syamsuddin within the KPK.

Karyoto said that investigators had been examining the allegations for a long time. In fact, when Novel Baswedan et al were still working at the KPK, the examination had been carried out but the results were nil.

"About AZ, we said that in the early stages, before our friends entered TWK, they had already checked. So what Novel (Baswedan, ed) said, there was no name," Karyoto said in a press conference broadcast on the KPK RI YouTube, Friday, October 15. .

The allegation about the 'insider' who helped Azis Syamsuddin appeared at the trial of the former KPK investigator, Stepanus Robin Pattuju. Based on the investigation report (BAP) belonging to the Regional Secretary of Tanjungbalai City, Yusmada, it was stated that the former deputy chairman of the Golkar Party had someone who could secure himself in the anti-corruption commission.

Returning to Karyoto, he emphasized that so far no one knew if his subordinates had actually been playing a case. He even said that he only found out that Stepanus was a KPK investigator shortly before his determination as a suspect was announced to the public.

"I know Robin's face when he was here, before the press release. Moreover, he said he said he would deposit it to his superiors. His boss still has the task force, there is still a director, then there is a deputy," said Karyoto.

"So just ask the court through his lawyer who knows who he is," he added.

In addition, Karyoto also denied that he was one of the insiders who were said to have helped secure Azis Syamsuddin. According to him, so far he did not know the suspect who gave the bribe to Stepanus.

Even if he knew, said Karyoto, this was because Azis had previously served as a high-ranking official in the DPR. "I know him as an official in the DPR, he knows me as a deputy. To that extent. There is no personal acquaintance," he said.

Thus, he asked anyone who allegedly knew of an 'insider' who helped Azis to provide evidence. He also conveyed this to his former subordinate, Novel Baswedan, who claimed to know who the eight people were.

"So if Novel wants this, what is the evidence from the start. We also wonder who is who," he said.

"Moreover, from the start, Pak Damanik (a former KPK investigator who was expelled for failing to TWK, ed) et al did not mention the a, b, c. No. So I don't know. Is this just to enliven or what but if he has evidence, submit it and we will be happy to learn what Novel has to say," he concluded.
