Authority For Detection Of Zoonotic Diseases In Dozens Of Sacrificial Animals In The Riau Islands

JAKARTA - The Food and Agriculture Security Service (DKPP) of Bintan Regency, Kepri, recorded that 15 sacrificial animals were attacked by diseases and could not be used as sacrificial animals.

Although it is not a dangerous disease and is zoonotic in nature, the animals are quarantined and prohibited from being sold and used as sacrificial animals.

"There were four cows and eleven goats who were sick, such as worms, diarrhea and Orf," said the Head of the Animal Health Section at DKPP Bintan, Iwan Berri Prima in Bintan, Friday, July 24.

Iwan also shared tips with the public regarding how to choose a healthy sacrificial animal from its physical appearance.

According to him, healthy sacrificial animals have the characteristics of bright eyes and not dirty, clean and not dull fur, wet and clean nose mirrors, not thin, normal feces and no diarrhea, good appetite and agile animal movements.

"For sacrificial animals that are not deformed, the testicles are intact and have a pair, the ears are intact, the horns are not broken, they are not blind and the legs of the sacrificial animals are not lame," he said.

In terms of age of sacrificial animals, he continued, proper sacrificial animals such as cows or bulls are at least two years old while goats are at least one year old.

"To the animal sacrificial committee in mosques to ensure that the sacrificial animals when they are delivered to the slaughtering location already have an SKKH (animal health certificate) from the authorized veterinarian," he added.

Furthermore, the Bintan DKPP has supervised 1,266 sacrificial animals which were supervised by the Bintan DKPP Animal Health.

This number consists of 605 cows and 661 goats scattered in the districts of East Bintan, North Bintan, Toapaya, Mount Kijang, Seri Kuala Lobam, Teluk Bintan and Teluk Sebong.
