Riau KSDA Center Confiscates 840 Birds Without Official Documents Although Not Protected Animals

JAKARTA - The Regional III Conservation Section Team of the Riau Natural Resources and Conservation Center arrested the perpetrators of transporting 840 birds without documents and confiscated the birds on Jalan Garuda Sakti Kilometer 6 Pekanbaru. If it is official, it must be confiscated by the state to return to its habitat," said Head of Regional Section MB Hutajulu in Pekanbaru, as reported by Antara, Thursday, October 14. The team immediately went down and found 24 boxes containing birds without any documents at the scene on Monday, October 11. The team immediately took the driver (JM) and the found items to the Riau KSDA Central Office. The team examined Brother JM and Brother M (a fellow travel driver who helped him).

The birds were identified with details as the Javan Prenjak Bird as many as 525 birds. Then there are 280 Gray Sparrows; and 35 gray Cinenen Birds. "As for Mr. JM, he has signed a statement stating that he will not repeat the same thing. And is willing to be processed according to the applicable laws and regulations if caught in the act of carrying/transporting protected or unprotected animals but without official documents," he said. The team then released the birds on Tuesday, October 12 to their habitat in the conservation area. Further investigation, he said, would be carried out to deepen the origin of birds and their ownership. Furthermore, he appealed to the public when bringing wild plants and animals and parts thereof for commercial purposes, souvenirs and research, they must be accompanied by documents, namely the Letter of Transport for Plants and Animals-In State (SAT-DN) for domestic purposes. Then SAT-LN for overseas purposes, as regulated in the Decree of the Minister of Forestry Number 447/Kpts-II/2003 concerning Administration of Collection or Catching and Distribution of Wild Plants and Animals.
