ICW: What's The Use Of The KPK Supervisory Board, If Firli Bahuri's Code Of Conduct Violation Is Silenced

JAKARTA - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) has asked the Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) not to drag on in examining suspected violations of the code of ethics of KPK chairman Firli Bahuri, who was caught riding a luxury helicopter some time ago for family matters.

ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana assessed that Firli had violated the code of conduct established by the Supervisory Board.

"We believe that the actions concerned basically have fulfilled the elements of violating the code of ethics," said Kurnia as quoted from his written statement, Friday, July 24.

Even so, Kurnia saw that there was an impression that the Supervisory Board had made the violation of the code of conduct and this is not the first time.

He gave an example that there were a number of violations of the code of ethics committed by the Chairman of the KPK but they did not receive any action from the supervisory board. One of them was returning to Kompol Rossa Purbo Subekti in January.

Whereas at that time, Kompol Rossa was in charge of handling the alleged bribery case involving former PDI-P candidate Harun Masiku and former Commissioner for the General Elections Commission (KPU) Wahyu Setiawan.

Furthermore, this anti-corruption activist asked the Supervisory Board to have the courage to take action, such as the Deputy for Internal Supervisory and Public Complaints who gave ethical sanctions to the previous KPK leaders, namely Abraham Samad and Saut Situmorang.

"If the violation is already clear like this they just ignore it. Then what is the use of the Supervisory Board? After all, the fact is that the Deputy for Internal Supervision and Public Complaints is more courageous than the five members of the supervisory board," he said.

It is known, the KPK Supervisory Board has targeted to finish handling the alleged violation of the code of ethics by Firli in August.

KPK Supervisory Board member Syamsuddin Haris said that his party is currently still investigating the evidence and witness testimony regarding the allegation.

"Not yet (finished, red). Hopefully by early August it will be completed. At the end of July, the KPK Dewas focused on the Coordination and Supervision Meeting (Rakorwas) and the second quarter Performance Evaluation Meeting," said Syamsuddin when confirmed.

When the verdict has been passed, he continued, the results will be immediately reported by the reporter, namely the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI).

Previously, MAKI Coordinator Boyamin Saiman reported KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri via electronic mail to the KPK Supervisory Board. This is because Firli is suspected of having violated the code of ethics by using a luxury helicopter owned by a private company to travel from Palembang to Baturaja on Saturday, June 20.

The basis for this report is the KPK Supervisory Board Regulation Number 1 of 2020 concerning the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct of the Corruption Eradication Commission in point 27 regarding the regulation of integrity, each KPK employee is prohibited from showing a hedonistic lifestyle which reads: Does not show a hedonistic lifestyle as a form of empathy to the public, especially to fellow Commission personnel.
