MEDAN - The University of North Sumatra (USU) has spoken about the raids on drug parties carried out by students and residents by the North Sumatran National Narcotics Agency at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB).
USU's Deputy Chancellor I, Dr. Edy Ikhsan, confirmed the raid on the abuse and circulation of narcotics within USU. According to him, this is a series of face-to-face learning preparations that will be held in the near future.
"We are preparing face-to-face learning, which will be held in the next semester at the earliest. One of them is that we want to eradicate the abuse and illicit trafficking of narcotics which are indicated to be in the USU environment," said Edy Ikhsan during a presentation on the case at the North Sumatra Provincial BNN office in Medan Monday, October 11th.
He emphasized that the raid was the result of coordination between USU and the North Sumatran National Narcotics Agency. Previously, USU had sent a letter to the North Sumatran National Narcotics Agency to conduct a sweep in its environment.
"This is the result of our coordination with the North Sumatra BNN, because previously we had sent a letter asking for a sweep in the USU environment," said Edy.
Edy Ikhsan explained that USU has rules regarding sanctions given to students who face legal problems. He said that students who were sentenced to a minimum of two years would be immediately dropped out (DO).
"According to the Chancellor's regulations, students who will be sentenced to a minimum sentence of two years, we will immediately fire them," he said.
Edy also emphasized that USU would not intervene in the ongoing legal process. This is USU's commitment to eradicate narcotics abuse and illicit trafficking within USU.
Meanwhile, USU's Vice Chancellor V, Luhut Sihombing, explained that USU would evaluate entry access at USU. Even though USU implements learning from home, some academic activities are still carried out at USU.
"It is true that USU conducts learning from home, but we cannot limit creativity and academic activities in several study programs. For example, ethnomusicology conducts activities in its studio," said Luhut.
