JAKARTA - The National Police are asked to be proactive in following up on cases of alleged rape and sexual violence experienced by three brothers in East Luwu, South Sulawesi (Sulsel), which were allegedly committed by their biological father.

"The police must open up, proactively re-investigate the case. The public is waiting," said police observer Dr Edi Hasibuan when contacted in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Saturday, October 9.

According to the Director of the Indonesian Police Strategic Studies Institute (Lemkapi), the police have a moral obligation to complete the case, even though it is an old case and has been discontinued.

In fact, he said, if necessary, the South Sulawesi Police Chief would deploy personnel from the general criminal directorate to assist the East Luwu Police.

"This is part of the responsibility in the Precision concept launched by the National Police Chief," said Edi.

On the other hand, Edi hopes that the community will give trust and support to the police to handle this case, and not have negative prejudices against the Police.

"We must believe and give the police a chance to re-investigate this case. The public must help," he said.

He also asked the public to understand that there are procedures that the Police must go through.

"I am sure that if there is new evidence, it will be handled," said Edi again.

According to Edi, the performance of the police under the National Police Chief Gen. Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo must be admitted to be getting better.

"I think the performance of the police under the current Chief of Police is getting better, transparent, and precise," he said. During the last few days the public was shocked by the viral news of rape and sexual violence experienced by three brothers who were allegedly committed by their biological father.

The incident occurred in East Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi in 2019. However, due to not finding enough evidence, the East Luwu Police stopped the investigation process on December 10, 2019, exactly two months after the case was reported by the victim's mother.

In fact, Deputy V of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Jaleswari Pramodhawardani also spoke and hoped that the case would be reopened.
