Akhokoy Dance From Sentani Traps PON Audience At GOR Toware, This Is Its Philosophical Meaning

PAPUA - Papuan traditional dances from two different studios entertained the audience, athletes and officials at the Toware Sports Building (GOR) Jayapura Regency today.

The first traditional dance was performed by children from the Lake Sentani Breathing Studio. The teenagers performed the akhokoy dance, which is one of the traditional dances of the Sentani people.

The dance comes from Puay Yokiwa Village. This dance tells of life events that have occurred since time immemorial until now.

One of the functions of the dance is to raise the greatness of Andoafi or also known as the chief of the tribe in the area.

The dancers consisting of teenage boys and girls line up straight while using various attributes and distinctive songs.

Not only that, the public was also entertained by the dance of joy. The traditional dance tells of a success in a business that ends with thanksgiving or joy.

The traditional dance was performed by the Cenderawasih Studio from Jayapura Regency, led by Edhy Palsey.

Finally, before the preliminary round match for the pencak silat sport began, the audience, officials and athletes were entertained by the performance of the Pura Ara o dance.

This dance has a more meaning to togetherness and binds kinship between one another. This traditional dance is usually performed at traditional parties.
