To Achieve Herd Immunity Mandatory 70 Percent Vaccination, We Still Need 7 More Months

JAKARTA - Although active cases continue to decline, the public is asked not to be negligent with health protocols. Communal immunity is far from being targeted.

Vice President, Ma'ruf Amin reminded that efforts to achieve communal immunity or herd immunity nationally against COVID-19 still require hard work from various parties and the community.

This was conveyed by Vice President Ma'ruf when delivering keynote speeches at the 30th Dikreg Police Staff and Leadership School (Sespimti) seminar and the 61st Dikreg Police Staff and Middle Leadership School (Sespimmen) via videoconference from Jakarta.

"Until October 3, 2021, nationally, the first dose of vaccination has reached 45.03 percent and for the second dose 25.29 percent. This means that hard work is still needed to achieve 70 percent herd immunity for the first and second vaccination coverage," said the Vice President during his speech. the key is from the vice president's official residence in Jakarta, Wednesday 6 October.

Referring to data from the Ministry of Health, the average daily COVID-19 vaccination per week has reached 1.4 million doses per day. With the average number of COVID-19 vaccinations, Indonesia still needs another seven months to achieve herd immunity, namely at least 208.5 million people are vaccinated.

"It is estimated that it will still take seven months from now or around the middle of 2022 to reach 70 percent (vaccine) coverage," he added as quoted by Antara.

If the national herd immunity target is to be achieved by the end of December 2021, then all parties must accelerate the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine.

"If we want the vaccination process to be completed by the end of 2021, the speed of vaccination needs to be increased to 2.5 million vaccinations per day," he said.

Therefore, the Vice President encouraged all ranks of the TNI and Polri to support the acceleration and improvement of COVID-19 vaccination in the regions.

"For this reason, the government hopes that the TNI and Polri will continue to help increase the acceleration of vaccination in areas where vaccination rates are still low," said the Vice President.

For information, based on data from the COVID-19 Task Force as of Monday afternoon (5/10), as many as 53,325,259 residents have received two doses of vaccine, so this figure is equivalent to 25.6 percent of the target for communal immunity of 208,265,720 residents.

Meanwhile, there were 90,638,945 people who had just received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
