BANDA ACEH - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of North Aceh Regency said as many as 1,853 people were displaced in two evacuation points due to flooding in the area.

"The floods are starting to recede. However, 1,853 residents affected by the flooding are still displaced because the water inundated their homes with a height of up to 60 centimeters," said Acting (Plt) Head of BPBD North Aceh Regency Murzani in Lhokseumawe quoted by Antara, Friday, October 1.

Previously, a number of villages in several sub-districts in North Aceh Regency were hit by floods following the collapse of the Krueng (river) Pase embankment due to heavy rains in the area.

Murzani said the flood-affected residents who survived in the refugee camps came from several villages in Samudera District and Geureudong Pase District.

There were also residents who fled, namely in Samudera District, including Mancang Village with 380 families or 1,200 refugees. And Tanjong Awe Village as many as 160 families or 640 people.

Meanwhile, in Geureudong Pase District, Dayah Seupeung Village consists of three families or 13 people. They fled to relatives' homes, said Murzani.

Murzani said the collapse of the Krueng Pase embankment resulted in flooding in five sub-districts, namely Samudera, Geureudong Pase, Matang Kuli, Pirak Timu, and Kita Makmur sub-districts.

The worst flooding occurred in Samudera and Geureudong Pase sub-districts. Meanwhile, in the other three sub-districts, the water level was not too high and there were no evacuations.

"In addition to submerging hundreds of houses, the flood also submerged a number of schools so that school activities were completely paralyzed. The flood had also inundated national roads, but the inundation has receded," said Murzani.
