Vice President Ma'ruf Calls The Halal Industry The Main Sector Supporting The Global Economy

JAKARTA - Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said the halal industry is the main sector that supports efforts to restore the global economy after the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I consider the halal industry sector, the health sector, the food and beverage sector, as well as the construction and agriculture sectors to be the main supports for the global economic recovery going forward," said the Vice President in his remarks at the 2021 National Export Conference via video recording from Jakarta, Antara, Thursday. , September 30.

At the national level, said the Vice President, efforts to recover the economy must be strengthened by providing job opportunities, most of which are currently in the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector.

With the potential of the halal industry at the global level, the Vice President encouraged all stakeholders and SMEs in Indonesia to have an export orientation to be able to play in the global market.

"Economic recovery must be supported through the provision of employment. Currently 97 percent of employment is supported by the MSME sector, it must be able to be developed into an export-oriented MSME sector," he said.

MSMEs are also the sector that contributes the most to national economic growth, said the Vice President, so that during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, MSMEs are the most affected sector in the economy.

"However, we learn that the crisis must open up new opportunities and bring up creative and innovative business ideas," he said.

Therefore, the Vice President hopes to further increase the synergy and collaboration between the business world and academics in order to prepare the younger generation to become export players, especially in the halal industry sector.

Through synergy and collaboration between the business world and academia, said Ma'ruf Amin, it will give birth to more and more new exporters from Millennial Generation and Generation Z to create new sources of economic growth.

"In the current conditions, Indonesia desperately needs new sources of economic growth," he said.
