Garuda Indonesia Assists The Protected Snow Leopard Animal Breeding Conservation Program

JAKARTA - The national airline Garuda Indonesia plays an active role in the conservation program for breeding the world's protected animals, namely the Snow Leopard with live animal transportation services on flight GA 089, the Amsterdam - Jakarta route, which arrived at Soekarno Hatta International Airport on Sunday, September 26. Upon arrival in Jakarta, the female Snow Leopard, named Maya, was immediately taken to Batu Secret Zoo in Malang by land, which also received full monitoring from the relevant authorities.

The transportation of protected animals is a follow-up to the collaboration between Tiepark Berlin and Batu Secret Zoo in the context of the Snow Leopard "breeding" conservation program, which is currently classified as an animal with a high risk of extinction.

President Director of Garuda Indonesia Irfan Setiaputra said, "Garuda Indonesia's participation in the Snow Leopard conservation program in Indonesia is a manifestation of our vision as a National Flag Carrier to always play an active role at the forefront in terms of program initiatives with environmental sustainability perspective, one of which is done through support for protected animal conservation program

In the midst of a situation full of challenges, this collaborative initiative is an important sign of Indonesia's commitment and active participation in various global environmental issues, which is represented through Garuda Indonesia's involvement in providing access to safe and reliable flight services.

In its implementation, Garuda Indonesia has carried out intensive coordination with related parties regarding the readiness of all required documents and transportation procedures, which refers to international regulations, namely the International Air Transport Association (IATA) along with quarantine and customs regulations in Indonesia.

On the same occasion, Director of Jatim Park 2 Ronny Sendjojo expressed his appreciation for Garuda Indonesia's full support for the Snow Leopard conservation program in Indonesia through high flight hours for handling live animal transportation. The aspect of air transportation is an important concern in this transportation process, considering that Snow Leopards are animals that tend to be easily stressed, so they need experienced handling.

"It is a matter of pride for us to be fully involved in this conservation program for protected animals. This conservation program is an important momentum for Batu Secret Zoo to carry out its philosophy of existence as a tourist park and modern animal conservation which plays an important role in commitment to environmental sustainability. The Secret Zoo as the location for this breeding program cannot be separated from the environmental habitat of our conservation facility located in the Batu highlands, so it is hoped that the Snow Leopard adaptation process can take place in a conducive manner," said Ronny.

Furthermore, in this conservation program, before the end of 2021, Garuda Indonesia will again transport male Snow Leopard which will later become part of the "breeding program" of these protected animals.
