JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force (Satgas) Prof Wiku Adisasmito said five provinces had succeeded in reducing more cases than the increase.

"DKI Jakarta, West Java, Bengkulu, Riau Islands, and South Sumatra are the provinces with the decrease in cases much more than the increase," said Wiku, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, September 28.

Wiku explained, in July 2021 (second wave) cases increased 24 times from May 2021. However, currently the cases have decreased 78 times lower than in the "second wave".

Then West Java, in the same period, cases increased 11 times, currently managed to fall 46 times lower.

The same thing was recorded in the province of Bengkulu, which previously increased 12 times, and now managed to fall 36 times lower.

For the Riau Archipelago, previously it increased five times, now it has fallen 24 times lower. And South Sumatra, previously increasing seven times, now managed to decrease 24 times.

"This is a very good development, this development will not be achieved if there is no good cooperation between all governments at the district/city level and the community who obey the applicable restriction policies," said Wiku.

However, Wiku also said that there were five provinces that experienced a fairly high increase, but the decline in cases was not greater than the increase.

He mentioned the five provinces, namely Papua, North Kalimantan, Gorontalo, South Sulawesi and North Maluku.

"This is a good development but it needs to be pushed forward so that the decline in cases can be even lower until it returns to the numbers before the spike in cases," he said.

Wiku asked the five provincial governments to continue to evaluate the handling of COVID-19 in their regions.

"Please convey to the central government if there are obstacles encountered so that they can be followed up immediately," he said.
