SOLO - People with disabilities from Solo have created smart trash cans that are equipped with sensors and are internet-based.

One of the team members who are members of Difa Elektra Solo, Heru Sasongko in Solo, Monday said the idea of creating a smart trash can started from their concern about the difficulty of some people with disabilities throwing garbage in public places.

"Initially we 'gathered' together, then it was sparked to make a trash can that can be used by the general public and friends with disabilities, including those who use sticks or wheelchairs," he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, September 27.

Next, they began to design the trash can. However, the process is not easy. Even for its development to become a ready-to-use product, it takes up to two years.

"Finally in 2019 we managed to enter Krenova in Surakarta City, becoming the champion of Hope I. Then we continued to grow and began to try to enter the business realm," he said.

The production is also supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. In fact, Difa Elektra Solo successfully entered the ministry's incubation program.

"We were also selected as one of 113 Indonesian innovation products. Previously there were 5,000 participants," he said.

Meanwhile, Difa Elektra Solo, which also consists of Dyan Ruscahyanto, Suprapto, Estiono, and Heru Supriyanto, is still developing this product.

"Now that the detection distance of the sensor to the object is 75 cm, in the future we will develop it again. At least from a distance of 1 km there has been a notification that there is a smart trash can that can be accessed by people with disabilities," he said.

Besides being equipped with a sensor-based automatic door, the trash can is also equipped with an audio marker that will sound as the door opens and closes.

Regarding production for sales, he said, currently Difa Elektra Solo has started working on orders from agencies, one of which is Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta.

"In the future we will also enter into agencies, including communicating with mas Gibran (Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming)," he said.
