DKI Still Targets Jakarta Floods To Retreat In 6 Hours, Deputy Governor: If 3 Hours Is Not Easy

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has begun to anticipate the potential for flooding ahead of the rainy season. In a coordination meeting for flood preparations, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan targeted the flood to recede within 6 hours.

This target is the same as last year's flood management. After the rain, the DKI Provincial Government began to handle the puddles, so the water would recede within 6 hours.

"God willing, we are ready (the flood recedes in 6 hours). So we have anticipated everything. All ranks are ready for the personnel who have been on duty and also all the equipment needs and even the needs of refugees are also prepared," said Riza at City Hall, Thursday, September 23.

Riza considers the flood target to recede within 6 hours is in accordance with the standard. This target will also be met if the rainfall is below 100 millimeters and is still accommodated in the drainage system. So, less than 6 hours is difficult to do.

"I think the number (6 hours) is quite wise. I think 3 hours is also not easy, it depends on the rain discharge. We can't predict it. Meanwhile, the intensity of the rain is getting higher every year," said Riza.

Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Sabdo Kurnianto, said that the DKI Provincial Government is making efforts to mitigate flood-prone areas such as dredging rivers and reservoirs to deal with the rainy season.

"So, the presence of stagnant water will decrease with the KPI that the Governor hoped was less than 6 hours, except for extreme rain, yes. Because we have drainage, it only rains 100 mm," said Sabdo.

In addition, DKI is also trying to be prepared by reducing disaster risk by accelerating post-flood recovery and preventing casualties.

"What is clear is that we face the rainy season regularly, meaning we have experience. If 2020 is like that, 2021 will be better. Hopefully this will be better," he said.
