President Jokowi Calls Five Points Of Consensus Myanmar Crisis Needs Military Group Commitment

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo said that the Myanmar military needed a commitment to resolve the crisis that occurred in the country, along with the takeover of power.

Myanmar's military led by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing overthrew the civilian government in a February 1 coup, imprisoning State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint, causing armed clashes and the crisis to date.

In his speech at the 76th UN General Assembly, President Jokowi said that the potential for violence and marginalization of women in Afghanistan, the independence of Palestine, which is far from expectations, and the political crisis in Myanmar must be on our agenda.

"ASEAN leaders have met in Jakarta and produced a 'Five Point of Consensus' whose implementation requires the commitment of the Myanmar military," said President Jokowi in a virtual speech broadcast on the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' YouTube account, Thursday, September 23.

"We must remain serious against intolerance, conflict, terrorism and war. Peace in diversity, guarantees for the rights of women and minority groups must be upheld," said President Jokowi.

Previously, in the 'Asia Society' meeting two days ago, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi who was lined up as a virtual speaker explained that Indonesia invited ASEAN member countries to continue the implementation of the 'Five Point of Consensus'.

"Because this is a clear mandate given by ASEAN leaders at the meeting in Jakarta last April," said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in a written statement.

"We have to admit that the implementation of the 'Five Point of Consensus' has been slow, but Indonesia will continue to strive to make progress," he said.
